Steel fabrication Perth

Steel, stainless & aluminium fabrication — and when to use each

Steel fabrication, stainless steel welding and aluminium fabrication in Perth. Choosing the material is half the engineering decision — here's how we think about it before quoting your job.

Strong, forgiving, cost-effective

Mild Steel

Mild steel is the workhorse of fabrication. It's strong, readily available in a huge range of sections, easy to cut and modify later, and the most economical choice for most structural and automotive work. It does need protecting from corrosion — paint, powder coat or hot-dip galvanising.

Typical process

  • MIG for speed and penetration
  • Stick for heavy sections and site work

Common applications

  • Structural frames and posts
  • Chassis and bar work
  • Trailers and machinery bases
  • Guarding and platforms

Corrosion resistant, clean finish

Stainless Steel

Stainless resists corrosion without coating, which makes it the right call near saltwater, chemicals, or anywhere hygiene matters. It moves more under heat than mild steel, so distortion control and clean prep are what separate a good stainless job from a warped one.

Typical process

  • TIG for finish-critical joints
  • MIG for larger stainless assemblies

Common applications

  • Marine and coastal fittings
  • Food and hospitality equipment
  • Exposed architectural work
  • Tanks and food-safe vessels

Light, durable, payload-friendly

Aluminium

Aluminium is roughly a third the weight of steel, which is why it dominates trays, canopies and racks — every kilo saved is payload gained. It's unforgiving to weld: it conducts heat fast and hides oxide, so preparation and technique matter more than anywhere else.

Typical process

  • TIG for control and appearance
  • Spool-gun MIG for longer runs

Common applications

  • Utility trays and canopies
  • Roof and ladder racks
  • Boat and marine components
  • Weight-sensitive frames
